Things To Watch This Weekend

October 22, 2021

The T20 Cricket World Cup continues this weekend. This time it’s the Super 12 round, after a number of “warm-up”, “qualifying” games. We’re straight into the action with Australia taking on South Africa at 12 noon on Saturday. That match is followed by England against West Indies at 4pm. Sunday’s huge game is India versus Pakistan at 4pm.

DStv Premiership

There are four matches in the DStv Premiership this weekend

Maritzburg United (11th) vs TS Galaxy (16th)

Our prediction: 1-0

Cape Town City (12th) vs Golden Arrows (8th)

Our prediction: 1-1

Chippa United (14th) vs Moroka Swallows (13th)

Our prediction: 0-0

SuperSport United (2nd) vs Kaizer Chiefs (9th)

Our prediction: 0-1

English Premiership

There’s a full round of fixtures following the Champions League and Europa League action. Often there’s a few upset results given that players are fatigued and injuries, like Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner with Chelsea, take theri toll. The big game is at Old Trafford on Synday nigth – Manchester United vs Liverpool!

Our predictions are:

Arsenal vs Aston Villa (1-1)

Chelsea vs Norwich (3-0)

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle (2-1)

Everton vs Watford (2-0)

Leeds vs Wolves (2-1)

Southampton vs Burnley (1-0)

Brighton vs Man City (0-3)

Brentford vs Leicester City (1-3)

West Ham vs Tottenham (2-1)

Man United vs LIverpool (1-3)

United Rugby Championship

South Africa’s four sides have all got on the board in this new tournament, but after four matches they all find themselves in the bottom half of the log. This week though they are not in action as they have played away matches and now look forward to “welcoming” the overseas sides into their home stadiums over the next few weeks. The three Irish teams, Ulster, Leinster and Munster, have been the form sides in the competition so far.

Scarlets vs Benetton

Glasgow Warriors vs Leinster

Zebre vs Edinburgh

Cardiff Blues vs Dragons

Connacht vs Ulster

Ospreys vs Munster

United States GP: This year’s US Grand Prix will be the first since 2019, when Valtteri Bottas won at the Circuit of The Americas and Lewis Hamilton secured his sixth title after finishing second. The race at the top of the drivers’ championship this time round though is far from decided! Max Verstappen (Red Bull) leads Hamilton (Mercedes) by six points (262.5 to 256.5), with Bottas (Mercedes) third on 177 points and Lando Norris (McLaren) fourth on 145 points.

Our bet: Verstappen to win in the USA and win the overall drivers’ championship.

The Cape scene switches to Kenilworth this weekend and three are two races which have attracted high-qualify dfields. Our Cape racing tipster Gary Lemke feels that the GGGaming-sponsored stable of Candice Bass-Robinson can win both the Cape Classic for colts and geldings and the Cape Fillies Championship, both contested over 1400m. The colt Trip Of Fortune looks class, while Amanzimtoti and Santa Maria are Bass-Robinson’s best chances in the fillies race. Whoa Whoa Whoa, in the last race on the card, could end off a profitable betting day!

The action is in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Middleweight contenders coming off failed bids to claim championship gold begin their efforts to earn another title shot against one another here as Paulo Costa returns to face Marvin Vettori in what should be an explosive main event. Grant Dawson squares off with Ricky Glenn in a co-main event battle between lightweights looking to build off impressive finishes in their last outings and take another step forward in the ultra-competitive 155-pound ranks. Fan favourite Jessica-Rose Clark makes her return to the Octagon on Saturday night, squaring off with 2021 new arrival Joselyne Edwards in what should be a competitive, entertaining bantamweight affair.
