EPL Preview: Scores and betting tips for the round

September 17, 2021

We’ve had a good return from a betting perspective so far this EPL season and let’s hope we can continue with this round of fixtures. Former EPL Superbru global champion and sports writer Gary Lemke is here to talk you through this week’s round.

Newcastle 1 Leeds 2: Really tricky game. Last season Leeds did the double over the Magpies and I’m going for an away win here again. But … neither side have won this season and they’ve leaked the most goals of any team (11 and 12, respectively). Newcastle have problems on and off the pitch, but this being a Friday night game the home fans will have plenty of Newcastle Brown Ale in them to offer support.

Bet suggestion: Both teams to score (0.53-1)

Wolves 2 Brentford 0: This would look to be a “banker” for the hosts who sit below the newly-promoted Londoners on the log, but who have been playing better than the table suggests. The only worry is that it’s that dreaded Saturday lunchtime kickoff, which throws up the most upsets.

Bet suggestion: Wolves to win (0.91-1)

Burnley 1 Arsenal 1: Banana skin of a game. Burnley are a direct side and could trouble Arsenal at the back and Sean Dyche signed a new long-term contract this week. The hosts will be full of confidence. Arsenal haven’t beaten them in their last 3 League games but are favourites here.

Bet suggestion: Watch the game instead!

Liverpool 2 Crystal Palace 0: There’s often a slump in European week, but being Anfield and being a side full of goals, it’s hard to not see Liverpool winning this match. Liverpool haven’t conceded against Palace in their last 3 League games.

Bet suggestion: Liverpool to win by more than one goal (1.6-1)

Man City 2 Southampton 0: Pep Guardiola has urged fans to pitch for what is a “dangerous” Southampton outfit. City won 6-3 in the Champions League during the week and are full of goals.

Bet suggestion: Man City to win by more than one goal (1.1-1)

Norwich 1 Watford 1: Two promoted sides go head-to-head. Norwich have scored one goal and conceded 11 and are rooted to the bottom. Still, be wary. They’ve played Man City, Liverpool, Leicester and Arsenal in a tough start.

Bet suggestion: No bet, any of the 3 results are possible here.

Aston Villa 1 Everton 1: Tricky game, despite Everton starting out so well again and sitting fourth. They actually haven’t beaten Villa in their last 4 League games and the Villains were better than the 3-0 scoreline defeat at Chelsea suggested. But, Everton are deserved favourites here.

Bet suggestion: No bet, any of the 3 results are possible here.

Brighton 1 Leicester 1: Brighton have started, well, ‘brightly” this season, winning three of their four games. Throw in the fact that Leicester were in Thursday night Europa League action (a 2-2 draw) and there could be plenty of tired legs among the visitors. Be careful here too.

Bet suggestion: No bet, any of the 3 results are possible here.

West Ham 1 Man United 2: The Hammers are in good form again and are tough to beat at home. Both teams were involved in European action this past week, but Man United will have had 48 hours more rest. That, and the Cristiano Ronaldo effect, should ensure they continue their winning ways.

Bet suggestion: Man United to win (0.80-1)

Tottenham 0 Chelsea 1: A full-blooded London derby to end the week’s round. Both were in Europe, but Tottenham’s legs might be a little more tired. Tottenham won their first three matches of the season but they haven’t beaten Chelsea in their last 5 head to heads. Thomas Tuchel’s European champions know that this is the kind of game they have to win if they are going to be realistic title challengers.

Bet suggestion: Chelsea to win (0.80-1)

Wins all to come: Liverpool, Wolves, Man City, Man United, Chelsea (7.48-1)

All to come: Newcastle/Leeds (both teams to score), Wolves to win, Man City to win by more than 1 goal, Man United to win (10.04-1)
