Sun City, host 2020 SA Open starts on 3/12

December 3, 2020

Christian Bezuidenhout, winner of last weeks Alfred Dunhill at Leopard Creek doesn’t look like a bad bet at 7 1/2 to 1. You may or may not know his story, His two wins have come at Valderama, Spain and Leopards Creek, SA and what a CV to have, two great and tough courses. His next one may be this week at the iconic Gary Player Country Club at Sun City.

Bezuidenhout was just 2 years old when he picked up and drank out of a Coke bottle he found lying in the street. He discovered it contained rat poison resulting in a young Bezuidenhout having his stomach pumped, but this didn’t prevent the permanent damage done to his system. One of the long term effects is a stutter, causing him to become introverted and depressed. To overcome this, and many other obstacles he has faced and still be ranked in the top 50 golfers in the world at 26 years old is amazing. His current ranking is 41.

If not him this week in Sun City, perhaps it will be Wilco Nienaber’s turn as this course does favour a long hitter at more than 7800 yards in length, and Nienaber is certainly that. His price is 16 to1, he is ranked 186 in the world. A good showing here could certainly change that.
